The Friedensstärkenachweisungen had a different structure from the Kriegsstärkenachweisungen in the sense that the Friedensstärkenachweisungen only listed the personnel and the amount of horses, while the Kriegsstärkenachweisungen also listed the amount of weapons and motorized vehicles. The structure of the Friedenstärkenachweisung is explained here. Initially, in 1935/1936, the series was referred to as Stärkenachweisungen, which changed starting 1937 in Friedensstärkenachweisungen. Of the Stärkenachweisungen only a few Sammelhefte are mentioned on this website. Very likely it contained as many books as the 1937 version of the Friedensstärkenachweisungen.
The F.St.N. charts illustrate the organization and composition of the standard units. Each standard unit is listed using the Nummer der Einheit unit number and the Benennung der Einheit unit denomination, see right for examples of Sammelband Heft 2 of 1937 in the top and 1939 below. The unit number is the unique identifier and the unit denomination describes the principal function of the unit. Unlike the K.St.N., revisions of the F.St.N. were not issued continuously, but frequent updates were published: 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939.
The strength of each unit is represented in 3 sections, Teil A, B and C:
Teil A lists the Waffenträger, the personnel and animals that were involved in combat functions. The animals were differentiated between the different uses of horses, dogs and pigeons.
Teil B lists Hilfspersonal, the supporting troops that are part of the Wehrmacht such as ordonnance, military police, administrative personnel of commanding posts and so forth.
Teil C lists Angestellten und Arbeiter, contractors and workforces that were hired by the Wehrmacht for supporting activities.
In the 1934 edition, also a 4th section was included, Teil D:
Teil D lists E-Personal, uniquely Staboffiziere, staff officers.
In the 1939 editions, the Teil C Angestellten und Arbeiter was no longer described, and they are also not listed in the subsequent Kriegsstärkenachweisungen.
The F.St.N. series consisted of a 2 sub-series: Heft A - F and Heft 1 - 23. It appears that Heft A - F deal with the organization and composition of units dealing with supporting functions to the Heer, such as recruitment and the legal units. Heft 1 - 23 appear to deal with the units directly related to the combat functions of the Heer.
