Friedens- und Kriegsstärkenachweisungen
St.N. - F.St.N. - K.St.N. - Friedens- und Kriegsstärkenachweisungen - troops strength allocation lists
These series of strength allocation charts summarize the composition and organization of the various units that made up the German forces. The standard unit types that are described are at the company or platoon level. This way, the composition of larger units such as battalions, regiments or divisions results from adding the individual units that made up these larger units. General purpose units, such as maintenance or reconveyance, only need to be defined a limited number of times, as their composition could be the same for very different larger units. This modularity thus allowed flexibility and represents the minimum administrative burden.
On these pages, the peace-time strength allocation documents as well as the war-time documents are presented, Friedensstärkenachweisungen F.St.N. and Kriegsstärkenachweisungen K.St.N. respectively.
The F.St.N. and K.St.N. lists also contain unit specifically for the Luftwaffe and for the Wehrmacht. The lists, however, do not contain descriptions of units of the Kriegsmarine. The SS has their own lists, which appear to be additional to the general F.St.N. and K.St.N. lists.
Next to these series describing basically the personnel requirements of the standard units, the equipment of these units was described in detail in the Kriegsausrüstungsnachweisungen, abreviated to K.A.N.. To date, I have not seen their listings of the Sammelbände, and indeed only have seen a few individual Kriegsausrüstungsnachweisungen of a limited number of standard units. See F.St.N. Heft 7 Nachrichtentruppe in miscellaneous as example.
Additionally, the early versions of the Kriegssoll an Vorschriften, breviated to K.a.V., also listed the required manuals for the various units using the same nomination as used in the Stärkenachweisungen and the Ausrüstungsnachweisungen, In later versions of the Kriegssoll manuals, referenceng to the various units was no longer applied. Moreover, the K.A.N. normally also contained a section on specific manuals for the various units. Below some examples of K.St.N., K.A.N. and Ka.V sheets listing requirements for personnel, material and manuals, respectively.
